Several factors serve as the root cause of erectile dysfunction (ED). These include medications, problems in one’s personal life, certain health conditions, drugs, smoking, even alcohol. ED has become a major concern in men who are young, middle-aged, or old. Though one can resort to medical treatments to improve the condition, lifestyle changes may also help improve their health. Here are a few tips that will influence and curb erectile dysfunction.
1. Exercise Regularly
According to medical research, physical exercise has proved effective against erectile dysfunction. They can include anything from low impact to intense workouts. Studies also show that one must invest about 40 minutes a day – four times a week for about six months – to notice signs of reduced ED. Some exercises include brisk walking, bicycling, running, swimming, and skiing. These are especially effective when ED is caused by inactivity, obesity, cardiovascular disease, among others.
2. Eat Healthy Foods
A person’s food intake can significantly influence their sexual function and chances of erectile dysfunction. So balanced nutrition serves as an ideal natural remedy for erectile dysfunction. The person must reduce their intake of processed or red meats for reduced erectile dysfunction. They must also include fruits, legumes, fish, nuts, and vegetables in each meal. Eating the right foods will also help improve their overall health.
3. Get Sufficient Sleep
Sleep is also a contributing factor when it comes to recovering from erectile dysfunction. Lack of sleep can drastically affect one’s’ testosterone levels while contributing to other health conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. Studies have proved that men who work night shifts are at higher risk of developing the condition as compared to those who work during the day. ED is also noticed in people who suffer from a sleep disorder and those who are affected by sleep apnea.
4. Reduce Stress Levels
Stress is a mental health condition that is a common cause of ED. Based on professional opinions, chronic stress may affect a person’s testosterone levels and even sleep deprivation, which leads to impotence. Enrolling in stress-relief courses such as yoga, practicing deep breathing, and more may help reduce stress levels. Reducing consumption of caffeine also goes a long way in curbing the said mental health condition.
5. Cut Down on Alcohol
Alcohol consumption doesn’t just induce erectile dysfunction but also negatively impacts one’s overall health. People who are addicted to heavy alcohol consumption are more likely to develop ED. Research also shows consuming moderate levels of alcohol (about 21 drinks a week) has been linked to a lowered risk of the condition. However, the implementation of alcohol in ED is still under observation. Therefore, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the consumption of just two alcoholic drinks or less per day.
Other factors also contribute to better health and a reduced risk of erectile dysfunction. These include cutting down on smoking, sex therapy, or couples counseling, and psychotherapy. One can always consult with a doctor before making any changes to their daily routine.
